El tapial, o tierra pisada, es una tradicional técnica de construcción con tierra cuyo origen se remonta al Neolítico. Esta legendaria técnica constructiva es una excelente alternativa de construcción sostenible, pues reduce la huella ambiental, emplea materiales sostenibles, favorece el consumo de proximidad y, al mismo tiempo, ofrece grandes ventajas.

Consiste en elaborar muros con tierra arcillosa húmeda, compactada a golpes con un pisón rellenando un encofrado con diferentes capas. Es frecuente la incorporación a la tierra de aditivos como paja o crin de caballo, que aportan una mayor estabilidad.

Esta técnica fue utilizada por los romanos en la construcción de sus murallas, caracterizadas por su dureza y estabilidad. Hace 2000 años, su uso era muy común en China, algo notorio como evidencia de la Gran Muralla, construida en gran parte con tapial. Otro ejemplo es también la Alhambra de Granada. Y es que el tapial fue también una técnica muy utilizada antiguamente en toda la cuenca del mar Mediterráneo.

Características

Algunas de las ventajas de la construcción con tapial son las siguientes:

• – Excelente comportamiento térmico, gran inercia térmica.
• – Aislamiento acústico.
• – Incombustibilidad frente a un incendio.
• – Es un método muy económico y ecológico, pues, gracias a las características propias de la arquitectura bioclimática, aprovecha los recursos disponibles y optimiza al máximo las condiciones climática de su entorno.
• – Impide las condensaciones por su capacidad de transpiración.
• – Favorece el confort y salubridad interior gracias al equilibrio entre humedad y temperatura que se produce entre el interior y el exterior.
• – Su demolición es también ecológica, pues es tierra inocua que podrá volver a ser utilizada.
